Álvaro how do I make my team accomplish a goal that we want to accomplish?
Making an entire team move to achieve a goal is one of the biggest headaches for leaders and managers.
I'll show you the way I showed my student:
1. Set the goal. Having clarity on what they want or where they want to go is essential. When there is no clarity of destination, the route will become challenging. Then clearly define what they are looking to accomplish or a place they want to go, for example: increase sales by 20% or go from R$200,000.00 in revenue to R$350,000.00. The goal needs to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely, then the team will know where the company wants to go.
2. Plan together. When the goal is defined, hold a meeting with the people responsible for achieving the goal. Ask for suggestions and even guidance to accomplish the goal. A lot of the ideas will come from the team and that will add a lot. If you implement some action that the team has given, be sure that the person will feel very important for having been heard by the leader or manager.
3. Track results. Set a smaller goal that you need to achieve, and go step by step until you reach the larger goal. We need to know where we want to go, but we also need to know where we are. The 1st pillar of leadership is Vision and the 2nd is reality. So knowing where you want to go and knowing where you are is fundamental.
4. Evaluate the strategy. Often we keep the goal but adjust the strategy. We must always focus on where we want to go, but we must often change the way to get to this special place.
5. Celebrate! It accomplished the goal celebrate a lot. Reward those who worked the most and give feedback to those who didn't. Evaluate the results and schedule the next goal using this same method.
